[237120, A2] Wk 4: Task 1B – Planning and Preparation (Part 2)
The following flow diagram created through google drive illustrates my writing process for academic submissions:
a) Analyse prompt: Analysing the implicit and explicit requirements of the submission, making note of command terms.
b) Create a loose structure: Mapping out the elements of the essay: introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion. This is written in consideration of the prompt; i.e. if the command terms state to ‘compare and contrast’, I would consider adding 2 paragraphs of similarity & 2 of differences. Each paragraph requires 3-4 points supported with examples.
c) Research to fill structure: Fleshing out the backbone previously created with evidence and arguments, including sources from a variety of mediums, perspectives, potential biases, credibility, etc. Notes of important information and citations are taken.
d) Revise structure: Using the research, I would revisit the structure to summarise information under themes, key points and examples.
e) Write essay: By this stage, writing the essay is simple due to the level of planning already undertaken.
f) Revise Content: For incorrect grammar, misspellings, run-on sentences, poorly made points and fluidity.
g) Edit for format and presentation: Reworking the essay to fit the presentation requirements of the submission.
